As the warm weather kicks into full swing, many people plan vacations and take a break from every day worries. If you are trying to get pregnant, the slow pace of summer can feel frustrating. You may be torn about whether to continue treatment or give yourself a respite from the grind of infertility treatment. At IVF Plano, Dr. James Douglas and our team understand your disappointment, so we want to offer support and encouragement to our patients.
Although some patients choose to stop treatments such as hormone therapy, intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in-vitro fertilization (IVF), you may want to consider that this interruption could result in regret and two lost cycles once fall arrives. These tips can help you feel refreshed so that you don’t have to stop treatment during the summer time:
Keep up with exercise
Hopefully, you have made regular activity a priority. During the summer, you can add walks outside or swimming to your workout schedule for variety.
Change up your routine
Juggling work and infertility treatment can feel like another full-time job. Use the summer as a chance to switch up your arrival and/or departure time so that you can schedule trips to the clinic with minimum disruption to your responsibilities in the office.
Invest in your relationship
Hormones, shots and failed cycles can strain the bond between you and your partner. Soak up some sun and rejuvenate your connection by visiting an outdoor flea market, hiking through trails or relaxing by the pool.
Take a metal break
It may help for you to clear your head for a few hours at a time. Try an activity that requires focused attention like painting, gardening, or Sudoku puzzles.
Even though you may feel discouraged, we don’t want you to lose sight of the ultimate goal: a successful pregnancy. Throughout the year, including summer, Dr. Douglas is committed to helping our patients succeed in realizing their dreams of parenthood.
